A match-up of two struggling pitchers tonight when the Cincinnati Reds continue their four-game set at Houston.
The Reds have lost five straight and 12 of 16 to fall 5 1/2 games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central. They are 40-47 (.460) overall this season.
Veteran right-hander Jimmy Haynes looks to get the Reds back on track tonight but he is just 1-8 with a 5.75 ERA in 12 starts this season. Haynes has been a big disappointment this season following a team-best 15-10 record in 2002. Opponents are hitting .308 against him this season so it's no great surprise that he is having such a poor year. In nine career starts against Houston he is 1-5 with a 6.50 ERA.
The Astros are 45-43 (.511) overall this season despite losing three of their last four.
Tonight they start struggling right-hander Tim Redding who is 0-4 with a 6.05 ERA over his last five appearances...in fact he has not won since beating the lowly Devil Rays one month ago. Overall this season he is 4-8 with a 4.07 ERA and at night is just 2-8 with a 4.76 ERA in 14 outings. In three career appearances against the Reds he is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA.
These teams combined for eight runs in Game 1 of this series but with better offensive production from the Reds tonight and we expect this one to get into double digits.
Recommended Play: Over 10 -110
Good luck
